CHEAP WINDOWS STARTER EDITION FOR INDIA

Windows Starter Edition English version for India

BY A CORRESPONDENT

25th September, 2005: The cheap Microsoft Windows starter edition in English will be available in India from the beginning of next year. Microsoft plans to tap the English-speaking population in India with the Microsoft Windows starter edition. Currently, the starter edition of Windows is available in India in local languages, but not English.

The Windows starter edition can handle only three programs at the same time, has less graphic capability and has limited networking options. Microsoft hopes to stem the increasing popularity of open source software by popularising the cheaper, stripped-down Windows.

The starter edition of Windows is currently available in 18 countries across the world. It is not available in the US and Europe, where only the full version is available.

In recent years, there has been a growing popularity of open source platforms India, to the unease of the operating system giant. The cheap starter edition of Windows is expected to help Microsoft make additional steps into the middle and low-middle class computer users in India conversant in English.
